New gen Chevrolet Cruze to debut in India at 2016 Delhi Auto Expo?

Globally unveiled at Detroit in June 2015, the new generation Chevrolet Cruze sedan could make India debut at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, which will take place in early February.

First launched in 2008, the Cruze nameplate is sold in more than 40 countries around the globe. It is one of teh best selling executive sedans on offer in the Chevrolet line-up. Now in its second generation, India launch will not happen before 2017. The delay is because GM India will need to work on localisation of the car, in order to achieve competitive pricing.

Abounding in luxury features and on board equipment, the new Chevrolet Cruze receives a chiseled exterior, sharper lines and a creased bonnet. Its front end is dominated by a two part grille, sharp headlights and LED daytime running lights. Chevrolet Cruze sits on 17” wheels while rear bumpers are sharper, sporting two part tail lamps.

The new Cruze is 2.7 inches (68 mm) longer and nearly an inch (25 mm) shorter in height than the current model, giving it a longer and leaner appearance. A faster windshield rake and a faster-sloping rear profile lend a sportier look to the design, while the rear profile culminates in a standard integral rear spoiler that contributes to the car’s aero efficiency.

Cabin is posh and exclusive with the choicest of upholstery. Similar to what is seen on its current counterpart, the new Cruze will receive dual cockpit design with piano black or bushed aluminium finish, soft touch surfaces on dash and a large screen in the centre will also be evident. Boasting of increased dimensions will also result in added interior space, while headroom is also increased substantially despite its swooping roof line.

The new Chevrolet Cruze comes in with OnStar infotainment system which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Features such as General Motor’s MyLink infotainment system with 7” touchscreen and MyLink radio with 8” display was seen at the unveiling. Added features include wireless phone charging, heated rear seats and heated steering wheel.

Engine specifications on board the new Chevrolet Cruze will include a 1.6 liter variable geometry turbo diesel which promises to be even more fuel efficient. Reports indicate that this engine will be capable of 135 bhp power and 32.6 kgm torque.

In India, Chevrolet Cruze will get new engine options. Replacing the current 2.0l diesel will be a much more efficient 1.6l diesel. Apart from this, there will also be a petrol option in the form of 1.4l EcoTec with 153 hp power and 240 Nm torque. Once launched, it will rival the likes of Skoda Octavia and Toyota Corolla.
