New VW Ameo makes India debut, launch in H2 2016 (60 Photos)

Making global debut in India, new VW Ameo sedan has been designed keeping car buyers in the country and their needs in mind. To be launched later this year, mostly by Diwali 2016, it will compete with the likes of Maruti DZire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Ford Aspire, Tata Zest, etc.

Engine options on offer with VW Ameo include 1.2 liter MPI three cylinder petrol engine and a four cylinder 1.5 liter TDI diesel engine. VW India did not reveal power and torque figures of the engines, but they did reveal that the petrol option of Ameo will be mated to a 5 speed manual transmission, while the diesle Ameo will get the option of either 5 speed MT of 7 speed DSG. This makes VW Ameo diesel first in segment to feature a DSG 7 speed automatic transmssion.

Speaking about features on offer, VW India proudly stated that in no way the Ameo will be compromised on features or safety. It is as much a Volkswagen car, as any other car in their line-up.

Some of the first-in-segment features on offer with Ameo includes cruise control, rain-sensing wipers along with static cornering lights, dynamic touchscreen multimedia system with MirrorLink technology which allows you to mirror your smartphone’s screen on the car’s touchscreen, thereby allowing you to you use some of your phone apps. This system can also connect to your iPod, phonebook / SMS viewer. VW Ameo also gets rear parking camera with sensors, auto AC, cooled glove box, electric ORVM, auto dimming IRVM, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, 16-inch alloys, front center amr rest with rear AC vents, and much more.

All variants of VW Ameo get dual front airbags and ABS as standard. Apart from this, VW claims that the class-leading superior build quality of Ameo results in giving their customers an unmatched high-speed stability, handling and ride quality.

Built on a modified Polo/Vento platform, there is a high amount of parts sharing done, to keep costs down. Built at an investment of INR 720 crore, VW India did not reveal price of Ameo. They will reveal price upon launch.

VW Ameo will now head to the 2016 Auto Expo, where it will share Volkswagen pavilion with new Passat, Polo GTI and many others.
