770,000 bikes sold and counting, new Yamaha FZ and FZ-S for India
New Yamaha FZ and FZ-S (refreshed FZ sports series with power from an air-cooled 150cc engine) made its debut this morning with sales in the Indian market beginning in July 2014.
FZ16 and FZ-S successors, new FZ and FZ-S development focuses on improved fuel economy, performance, and sharp styling. The sportier looking bikes are fitted with a metre visor.
A newly developed 150cc fuel-injected engine reports 14% fuel economy improvement over the existing bike’s 153cc engine. Newer lightweight frame and tires make for lighter handling, coupled with a sharper body design. For enhanced pillion safety, there’s a functional yet design conforming movable rear fender with an integrated sari guard.
Yamaha Motor survey, 2013 suggests India is the world’s largest motorcycle market with annual demand of more than 14 million bikes. Of these, 150-180cc sports-type motorcycles account for about 10% of the Indian bike market. Yamaha Motor introduced FZ16 series FZ16 series here in 2008. Total FZ16 series unit sales in India has reached 770,000 (upto May end, 2014).
High volumes of Indian-made FZ-series is exported to Central and South America, etc. and is part of Yamaha India’s motorcycle business core. Preferences in these regions point to sporty performance and improved fuel economy, ensuring new FZ-series meets such demands while furthering sales growth here, and overseas.
