Next gen Hyundai Elantra marks a design shift – Teased (Update)

19th August

Next gen Hyundai Elantra has been teased by means of a single image and what we see has nothing in common with the outgoing car. While the Fluidic Sculpture design of the existing model is very appealing to boot, the South Korean car maker has clearly upped the game with the popular sedan’s sixth iteration.

It’s unclear if this latest design philosophy would be branded as Fluidic Sculpture 3.0. The sedan sports a prominent hexagonal chrome grille with horizontal slates and angry looking peeled back headlamps which remind us of Jaguars.

Strong creases on bonnet, a swooping roofline, bold waistline, BMW-inspired Hofmeister kink (rear quarter glass panel) in the greenhouse round off what can be termed as a pretty sleek and energetic design. The sedan appears to sport chrome embellishments on foglight enclosures, wing mirrors and greenhouse borders.

Hyundai India launched the facelifted version of the existing car only in April this year.

We expect the same degree of design progress on the inside as well. More equipment and driver assistance systems go without saying, as the sedan displays all the symptoms of moving up the market.

Hyundai is expected to showcase its next gen Elantra at Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2015. The car would go on sale towards the end of 2015 or early 2016. The entry D sedan segment in India has lost almost all of its ground to SUVs and crossovers so we don’t expect Hyundai India to be in a hurry to bring the new Elantra here.
