Nissan GT Academy in Thailand launched, Rounds being held across India
Nissan and Sony Play Station launched the first ever Indian season of GT Academy 2014 in Delhi last month and in Mumbai from March 20 to 23. Following this success, Nissan in collaboration with Sony Thai Co has launched the Nissan GT Academy in Thailand marking its maiden entry in the ASEAN region.
The new Nissan GT Academy in Thailand will be seen as a boost to virtual racers to opt for Pro NISMO Athlete as the GT Academy offers an ideal platform for Thais to experience motorsports at an international level. The program seeks gamers who have mastered the PlayStation (R)3 Gran Turismo(R)6 (GT6(TM) thus ensuring that they become professional drivers and allows them to let loose their adventurous spirit and achieve their potential.
GT Academy in Thailand will consist of rounds in which top 28 Thai gamers will be selected out of which 14 will be from Nissan GT6 Simulators and 14 will be from PlayStation R Network. These participants will be given an opportunity to get behind the wheel of a Nissan GT6 Simulator at Nissan GT Academy Live Event to be held at Nissan booth at Bangkok International Motor Show from March 26 to April 6, 2014.
Nissan GT Academy will also go on a 4 city road show from April 24 to June 15 with top contestants clocking the fastest time being eligible to participate in the National Final. The final winner will then be a professional NISMO Athlete going on to receive a Driver Development Program to compete in the Dubai 24 Hours in January 2015.
“Since its conception, Nissan GT Academy has been defying both common sense and motorsports tradition. The program takes gamers who excel at PlayStation(R)3 Gran Turismo(R)6 (GT6(TM)) and turns them into professional drivers in a matter of months,” said Hiroyuki Yoshimoto, president of Nissan Motor (Thailand) Co., Ltd. “With the launch of GT Academy in Thailand, Nissan encourages Thais to unlock their potential and achieve more by joining this exciting and innovative program.”
“Nissan is proud to launch GT Academy in Thailand, our first country for the program in the ASEAN region,” said Darren Cox, Nissan Motor Corporation global motorsport director. “Now in its sixth year, the innovative GT Academy is getting a large international following since its successful execution in Europe, Russia, the USA, Middle East and South Africa.”
“With the addition of GT Academy International – of which Thailand will be one of five markets – we have expanded the program for 2014. This is a great endorsement of GT Academy’s increasing popularity worldwide. Nissan is an international company with global ambitions, and GT Academy reflects that.”
“Nissan GT Academy is a great program that offers once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for racing advocates to fulfill their dreams, racing the virtual track to win a chance to become a professional race car driver. The dream was realized for the winners of GT Academy in previous years, so you can do it too,” said Graves.
Alongside, Nissan GT Academy’s Indian qualifying rounds are being held through ‘Live Events’ in shopping malls in 5 select Indian cities. An online qualifying round that will be hosted on the PlayStation Network (PSN) at a later date and is an ideal platform for a gamer and enthusiast to make the shift to being a real race car driver and compete at the International Level. Nissan GT Academy “Mumbai Rounds” were held last weekend at R CITY MALL, Ghatkopar.
