Present Navara is about a decade old and has been longing for a refresh. Nissan Navara is not the only model to be refreshed this year, Mitsubishi Triton too will join the revamp programme, as both are manufactured in same Mitsubishi plant at Laem Chabang Industrial Estate in Chonburi, Thailand.
Notable differences in 2015 Navara include further separated vertical slats and ladder like horizontal bars making the front grille, headlamps with LED positioning lights and LED DRLs encased into fog lamp surround trims. Tail lamps are made bigger and more prominent.
Launch of a pickup aside, let us remind you that Nissan has indicated a Navara based SUV is to be brought into Indian market. Since Nissan has only Terrano compact SUV here, the Japanese automaker has not been able to enter into big league of SUVs and trucks in India. Nissan, known for those kind of big vehicles, might use the opportunity to introduce at least an SUV based on the Navara. Nissan would consider Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton series of SUVs as rivals.
Powerplant to be doing duty in Nissan Navara is expected to come from Cummins, similar to one plopped in Frontier Diesel Runner concept; a 2.8 litre 4 cylinder diesel mill.
