Nissan Navara pickup based SUV to be launched in 2015
Nissan NP300 Navara pickup was unveiled in Thailand early last month and more technical details of the pickup was recently revealed. Mechanical upgrades on 2015 Navara is noticed to be deviated from traditional pickup equipment, and more SUV friendly, like the five-link rear suspension. This among other reasons hinted at Navara based SUV to be in works, which is now confirmed.
Chief Engineer of Nissan Navara, Takashi Fukui revealed that the company is developing a Navara-based SUV. He managed to keep further details in dark, but suggested that it will be launched sometime in 2015.
Nissan Navara SUV will compete with other pickup-based models like Chevrolet Trailblazer and Ford Everest.
Nissan Navara SUV could get same engine options and tunes as new NP300 Navara pickup. YD25 2.5 litre turbocharged diesel engine in two tunes, 160 hp, 403 Nm for low end and 188 hp, 450 Nm for high end Navara.
New 2.3 litre YS23 engine, derived from 2.3 dCi unit seen in Renault Master van, to be available in markets with Euro 5 fuel, could also sport in Navara SUV in same markets. YS23 2.3 litre engine also in two tunes, produces 158 hp, 403 Nm in lower variant with single turbocharger and 188 hp, 450 Nm (similar to YD25) in higher trim with twin turbo.
