2020 Nissan Sunny sedan debuts – India launch next year

The 11th generation Nissan Sunny, known as Versa in the US market, made its global debut at Ocean’s Tortuga Beach Festival at Fort Lauderdale in Florida USA. It is also slated to come to India around 2020 and will be produced from the Nissan-Renault plant, which is located on the outskirts of Chennai.

Nissan Sunny is sold in many markets across the globe. In some markets it is known as Sunny, in some it is known as Versa or Almera. Depending on the market, the platform differs. Styling of the new gen Sunny is inspired by the Nissan V-Motion design philosophy.

In terms of design elements, the new Sunny sports a new V shaped front grille, wraparound headlamps, refreshed bumper design, a floating roof, larger rear doors and deep character lines across its sides. It also grows in dimensions as compared to its earlier counterpart.

The 11th gen Nissan Sunny has become more premium than before. The cabin gets updated with quality material. The dashboard design is inspired by what Nissan calls ‘Gliding Wing’. It features a touchscreen infotainment system, soft touch materials, two tone upholstery, chrome accents, etc.

Features on offer include ventilated seats, auto AC, steering mounted controls, cruise control, airbags, remote lock, keyless start stop, etc. Sunroof is not on offer as of now.

Where the engine options are concerned, in the US, it is powered by a 1.6 liter petrol turbo engine, which delivers 122 hp and 154 Nm via CVT. This is the same engine from before, but now tuned to deliver more power. Earlier engine output figures were 111 PS and 145 Nm.

In India, expect the Nissan Sunny to get same engine options as the Kicks. These are 1.5 liter HK4 petrol engine offering 106 PS power at 5,600 rpm and 142 Nm torque at 4,000 rpm and a 1.5 liter K9K diesel engine capable of 110 PS power at 3,850 rpm and 240 Nm torque at 1,750 rpm. The engines comply with upcoming emission norms.

The current generation Sunny is priced at Rs.6.99-Rs.9.33 lakhs while the new generation model could see an upward revision in price. Like its current counterpart, the new Nissan Sunny will also continue to compete with the Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and the Maruti Ciaz.
