Nissan Motor is gearing up to hire contract workers who'll replace temps who're currently filling in clerical posts. This comes in accordance to guidelines set by the Tokyo Labor Bureau to better employment practices as per the Worker Dispatching Law.
At present there's 1.3 million temp workers filling in clerical jobs in Japan, and there's many a controversy time and again regarding unfair treatment meted out to such workers, and as such the government hopes to set things right. Nissan Motors accounts for about 700 to 800 such workers. In most cases staffing agencies send forward such resumes, and the company has now stopped accepting such workforce, instead turning their attention to contract employees. The contracts handed out won't extend further than two years and 11 months after which time, it's complicated for employers to terminate such contracts.
Nissan Motors drew substantial flak when they resorted to dispatching temp staff after Lehman Brothers collapsed in 2008 leading to a global financial downturn.
