Ford has announced that it's unlikely that the company would introduce a car called Splash in India, this despite the fact that they registered the brand in India. In fact, this registration of Ford's ensured that Suzuki was unable to use the name, and were compelled to launch their global hatchback as the Ritz in India.
Ford announced that they won't use the name because they will be using global names to expand in India. In fact, Ford registered Splash back in 2002 with the Controller General of Patents Designs and Trademarks Registry. AS such, Suzuki Motors had to approach the board in order to be able to launch their global 'Splash' in India under the same name. However, this wasn't possible, and MSI withdrew their plea.
Ford prefers not to use Splash for a vehicle launch as they wish to launch vehicles with global names rather than specific to India. There are no details regarding whether or not the company has withdrawn the registration.
