Striking workers have laid siege at the Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) production unit at Manesar.  The strike which has been on since 29th of August did see some respite only to be back to paralyze operations and affect sales.  MSIL plant at Manesar is idle due to the fact that their 1500 workers have blocked access to the factory demanding reinstatement of their 44 suspended contemporaries.

Maruti Suzuki has three functioning units at Manesar in Haryana Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Limited, Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd and Suzuki Castings Ltd.  All three facilities are at a standstill to support the workers union.

Production at the Gurgaon plant of Suzuki Powertrain too has been affected and the unit which supplies diesel engines and transmissions to MSIL has cut production by nearly half. This extended duration of the strike is bound to affect production and deliveries even further. With the approaching festive season which sees increased demand of cars, especially hatchbacks and small cars, is bound to result in heavy losses for the company. Delivery of the new Maruti Swift is laredy hampered. Just today the Hyundai EON has been launched at an introductory price of Rs. 2.69 lakhs. This will certainly hamper the Mrauti Alto dream.
