Renault Duster outsells Ford EcoSport SUV in Brazil for 2012

2013 Ford EcoSport is heading to Indian shores. Ford India has stated that the EcoSport will arrive by early 2013, where it will compete with the Renault Duster SUV, which was launched back in July 2012 with a price of Rs 7.19 lakhs. Duster SUV has posted incredible sales figures in India and automobile enthusiasts are already wondering what will happen once the EcoSport is launched.

But, on the other side of the world, this battle is already taking place. In Brazil, Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster are available. For the year 2012, Renault Duster has won the battle, as it registered sales of 46,893 units while Ford registered sales of 38,284 EcoSport units. For the month of Dec 2012, Ford EcoSport (6,686 units) outdid Renault Duster (6,524 units) marginally, second time since the launch of new EcoSport. Overall, Ford EcoSport sales outnumbered that of Renault Duster for five months in 2012; Jan, Feb, Mar, Oct and Dec.

Ford India will be launching EcoSport in India in the sub 4 meter category so as to take advantage of certain excise tax cuts and maintain the pricing at competitive levels as it competes with the Renault Duster on a number of fronts. Ford EcoSport is currently on test in India. It was spotted with a 1 liter EcoBoost turbo petrol engine while a diesel powered e1.5 liter TDCI turbo diesel engine is also in the offing which is one reason why the company is confident of its success in India.
