Renault reveals plans to enter used car business in India

Following in the footsteps of Maruti Suzuki, Toyota and Mahindra, all of which also operate in the used car business space with True Value, iTrust and First Choice respectively, Renault also wishes to foray into this space and have spelled out their new business plan.

Renault India Country CEO and Managing Director, Sumit Sawhney, is ready to make a formal announcement in April and a special team for the used car business has also been established. The used car business will cater to the demands of a customer wishing to purchase a new Renault model who also looking out for an exchange platform for an existing car with the assurance of the right value. This is where the used car business will play a major role not only from the company dealer’s point of view but also where customers are concerned. Renault which operates the used car business in other global markets is yet to decide on a name for the used car business in India.

Renault which currently sells the Pulse hatchback, Scala sedan, Duster SUV, Fluence sedan and premium SUV Koleos in the Indian market also has other plans in the offing. The company has entered into a joint venture for financing of cars and will also be augmenting their technology center in the country wherein there are already 5,000 employees. 37 modifications are made in the upgraded Duster SUV and Renault is stated to be currently working on an upgraded version of the Scala sedan.

As for new car launches from Renault in India for 2015, the company will launch Maruti Ertiga and Honda Mobilio rival by April. This will be in the form of Lodgy MPV. After this, in December, they will launch a completely new small car, in the sub Rs 4 lakh category.
