Renault Kwid recalled – about 50,000 units affected

Renault Kwid, the new entry-level hatchback which was launched in India in September 2015, has been recalled. The affected units of Kwid were manufactured in the period between October 2015 to May 2016. This means that only the Renault Kwid 800 cc variants are affected, and not the recently launched 1 liter variants.

A hot favorite among buyers in India, Renault says that the recall is to rectify a faulty fuel system. As per the company, about 50,000 units of Kwid do not have a fuel hose clip. The latest recall will rectify this fault. The affected cars will be inspected without any cost to the customers.

In a statement Renault India said, “As a proactive measure, a fuel hose clip will be added to these select cars along with the evaluation of overall functionality of the fuel system to mitigate any potential disruption of fuel supply. We are in the process of contacting customers, requesting them to come to dealerships to get their cars inspected.”

Renault Kwid has appealed to a younger and more adventurous set of buyers in the country due to its compact stance, attractive exteriors and a host of interior features. It is also its attractive pricing between INR 2.62 to INR 3.67 lakhs, made possible due to 98% localization, that has helped it amass so many bookings.

Renault Kwid having achieved a feat of crossing 1.65 lakh bookings in less than a year is indeed noteworthy. This entry level hatchback was a success story from the start with over 25,000 bookings received within a week of launch. This sustained momentum allowed the auto maker to increase its market share from 2.3% to 3.8% over the past few months. Renault India has even stepped up production to 10,000 units per month so as to comply with bookings and ensure lower waiting period.

Celebrating the huge success, Renault India also launched a new TVC featuring their brand ambassador Ranbir Kapoor. Watch the TVC below.

Renault Kwid 800 comes with a 796 cc petrol engine offering 54 bhp power and 72 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. It offers fuel efficiency of 25.17 kmpl and comes in with features that include electric power steering, one touch lane change indication and power windows. Media NAV infotainment, Bluetooth connectivity, USB and AUX-in are among those features buyers find more attractive. Renault Kwid is offered with 50,000 km/2 year maintenance policy which can be extended to 80,000 kms/4 years along with Road Side Assistance for 24 months.
