Renault Nissan increase production targets: Nissan Evalia will compete with Maruti Ertiga

Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt. Ltd., with its plant situated at Chennai is all set to increase their production two fold for the current year. Production will increase to 250,000 units per annum. The Chennai plant’s second production line came into being in March this year with capacity of 400,000 cars per annum and an investment of Rs.4,500 crores. Besides this, the company has also completed 80% of their investments in the new plant located at Oragadam situated 45 kms from Chennai.

Nissan also gets set to launch ‘Evalia’ a passenger car suited for being used as a taxi fleet in New York. Renault Duster, an SUV is also in the offing. Nissan Evalia will be a 7 seater MUV. It was earlier seen at the 2012 Delhi Auto Show and is expected to be launched in India by August 2012.

Evalia is expected to be priced at around Rs.7 lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi). Evalia is set to compete with Maruti Suzuki Ertiga which has been doing well since its launch. Ertiga is priced at Rs.5.89 lakhs in India and though Evalia will be steeper it is expected to come in with very high levels of efficiency which the company hopes will help in attracting customers.
