Renault small car launch next year to rival Maruti Alto
Renault-Nissan Alliance showcased a number of upcoming offerings at 2014 Auto Expo. The company has previewed Datsun Redi-Go Concept, Go hatchback and 7 seater Go+ MPV. Apart from this, they have also confirmed a new small car that will take on Maruti Suzuki Alto, Hyundai Eon and Chevrolet Spark in a segment that makes up for about 40-45% of the entire car market in India.
The new small car from Renault will be based on Renault Nissan new CMF-A platform. Developed in India, launch is slated for early 2015 while it will be produced from the joint Renault Nissan plant in Oragadam near Chennai, reveals Economic Times.
To come out in a sporty new design with outstanding usability, the new small car from Renault will cater to the lower end segment from where the company expects to see high volume sales. This upcoming small car will be powered by an 800 or 900 cc engine mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. It will come as no surprise if the company introduces this small car with AMT to attract further attention. Besides being produced in India, the new small car from Renault will also be produced at the company’s Brazil plant.
Renault has seen increased performance in India. In the past year, the company sold around 64,000 units and plan on increasing market share to 5% from a current 2% in the next three years. The company is also eager to increase its domestic network from a present 125 dealerships to 175 by the end of this year with dealerships being planned in Shillong, Aizwal, Johrat and Dibrugarh.
