The Global Summit on Road Infrastructure management & Safety is being organized by InfraMarket India and TEST – Traffic Engineers and Safety Trainers. The conference is scheduled to be held at the Hotel Lalit Ashoka Bangalore on February 7th and 8th 2013. Indian Road Sector has a host of challenges to contend with. Slowdown of execution, delays in land acquisition, increasing interest rates and competition are stalling timely and efficient completion of various road projects by NHAI.
Projects awarded by NHAI in the past few years have increased by leaps and bounds 4375 kms were awarded in the first 9 months of 2012 as against 4553 kms during 2011. There has been a slowdown in activities in between, however, activity has increased with 1898 kms of projects awarded at the end of 2012. Road development is sadly neglected in India as compared to the rest of the developed world. More accidents happen in India due to road accidents even compared to the highly populated China.
The country has been identified by WHO as the world leader in road deaths which has increased by 5.5% since 2009. Indian road conditions are bogged by inefficient management, faulty and inferior construction material, lack of proper signs and markings all of which contribute to higher incidents of road accidents. The upcoming conference hopes to target these areas of negligence on a war footing with experts and consultants coming together with road planners and engineers to devise new road management techniques.
