Royal Enfield tech centre in the UK to be ready by end 2015

With 300,000 motorcycles sold last year, Royal Enfield now aims to manufacture 450,000 units in 2015. With the kind of demand the Indian motorcycle maker enjoys in the country, this number is easily achievable, only if they are able to match demand with production.

Royal Enfield sales grew at a phenomenal pace in 2014. But this is still the beginning. The company has the potential to grow miles further. In order to achieve this aim, the company has announced fresh investments for the development of two tech centres. One Royal Enfield tech centre will be setup in India, while the other will be setup in the UK. Investments to the tune of INR 500 crores are set apart for product development of these new technology centres.

Th Indian technology centre will be located on Old Mahabalipuram Road, Chennai, while the the other will be setup in the English county of Leicestershire. The Chennai facility will be completed by the end of 2016, while Royal Enfield UK facility will be completed sooner by end of this year.

Once both these facilities are commissioned, they will assist the company in enhancing company capabilities and execution of long term product strategy and cater to growing demand. Royal Enfield currently has four models on sale which includes Bullet, Classic, Thunderbird and Continental GT.

The brand was in the limelight on 26th January 2015, not because of some new investments or bikes were announced. But because of something which was totally unexpected. At the Indian Republic Day, US President and Chief Guest of India on the day, Barack Obama mentioned Royal Enfield in the post event press conference. He had seen the motorcycles being used to perform stunts at the parade., which left him impressed. This piece of news was covered the world over, in all the leading newspapers.
