Six models of Harley Davidson to be axed for 2014
Six models of Harley Davidson, the American motorcycle manufacturer will be shown the door, for 2014, only to be returned in a new redesigned form later. These six models will include XR1200X Sportster, FXS Softail Blackline and the FLHTC Electra Glide Classic.
Besides these reasons, taking off 6 models may also be due to the fact that Harley Davidson has seen decline in sales to the tune of 9%. Sales diminished due to lack of demand all across the US. In the US, Harley Davidson will be taking off FLHRC Road King Classic, while FLHR Road King will be off the shelves in other markets across the globe.
Harley Davidson US sales fell for the first three months of this year. The company has blamed the cold and wet weather rather than the state of the economy for this. During Q1 2013, Harley Davidson’s US dealers sold a total of 34,706 units, down 12.7% as compared to sale in the same period in the previous year. However, these diminished sales did not affect company profits, which were up 30% following higher wholesale shipments.
