Update: Skoda Octavia vRS not launching in August 2014
Earlier report of Skoda India planning to launch the new Octavia vRS, a more powerful variant of the existing Octavia, has been rubbished by the company. The Indian subsidiary of Czech car maker has no such plans.
Skoda Octavia vRS was unveiled last year at Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2013. Skoda Octavia vRS is powered by a new 2.0 liter four cylinder petrol engine offering 220 bhp and 350 Nm peak torque mated to a six speed manual gearbox. Currently, the Octavia on offer in India comes with 1.4 TSI (140 PS), 1.8 TSI (180 PS) and 2.0 TDI (143 PS) engine variants.
This engine allows the Octavia vRS to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 246 kmph. In the UK, a 2.0 liter TDI engine is also on offer with Octavia vRS, offering 184 bhp peak power and 380 Nm peak torque also mated to a six speed manual transmission with a 6 speed DSG unit offered as an option. This engine allows the Octavia vRS to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.1 seconds. Skoda claims that each of these engines are up to 19% more fuel efficient than the outgoing Octavia.
Being sportier than the regular Octavia, vRS variant comes with revised front and rear bumpers and distinctive front grille with a vRS badge, alloy wheels, new LED front lamps and bixenon headlamps. The rear receives a new spoiler, diffuser and exhaust pipes. Seen with an all black interior, the Octavia vRS badge is prominently displayed. Steering wheel and gear levers are leather wrapped while pedals are in shining stainless steel.
