Smart Electric Scooter to be launched in 2014 at a price of $5,000 (Photos)

Daimler owned Smart have already offered their electric powered car and bike, and now comes their third offering, an electric scooter. Initially showcased at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, it was forgotten all this years, but now thanks to increase in number of environment conscious buyers, the e-scooter is back.

This plug in scooter will possess 48 volt lithium ion battery pack. Its engine will offer 5.4 hp and will be power the rear wheel. Smart electric scooter will possess maximum speed of 45 km per hour (28 mph), which is low enough for the vehicle to be taken to the streets even before one possesses a driver’s license.

Smart electric scooter will have its plug in socket up front and this can be charged through a normal household connection while a full charge will be completed in 3 to 5 hours. This will then offer riders a range of 100 kms.

Smart electric scooter will be lightweight and economical to use. It will be built of part steel and part aluminum. Smart electric scooter will also have a socket where you can connect your smartphone which will serve as a speedometer, range indicator, full navigation system and while detached from the scooter as a GPS tracking device, in case you need to locate your vehicle in a crowd. Pricing should be in the range of $5000 and above.
