SsangYong Tivoli facelift launched in South Korea – Spied in India

2019 SsangYong Tivoli facelift

Mahindra owned South Korean UV-expert, Ssangyong has silently introduced a mid-life facelift of its globally popular SUV, the Tivoli. It is calling it as the ‘Very New Tivoli’, where updates include some cosmetic changes, tweaks in the interiors and addition of a new petrol motor. It is also to be noted that test-mules of this facelifted Tivoli were also spotted testing in India a few weeks ago.

Talking about the updates, the Tivoli gets a new front bumper which now has larger air intakes while the grille and headlamps too have been redone a little. It is easier to notice the changes at the rear as the tailgate looks heavily redesigned, when compared with the outgoing version. Tail-lamps and the rear bumper have also been tweaked, further helping the 2019 Tivoli look more distinctive.

On the powertrain front, SsangYong has introduced a new turbocharged 1.5 litre-petrol motor which is paired to a 6-speed MT. The company hasn’t revealed details regarding the performance figures, but it claims that the motor provides a “powerful performance”. Reports suggest that the engine will be churning out around 160hp and 280Nm of max torque.

On the inside, the new Tivoli gets an all-digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster, an updated dashboard design and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. Reports also suggest that the quality of materials has also been upgraded to provide a more premium feel to the customers. However, certain parts like air vents and steering wheel have been carried over from the pre-facelift version.

Official launch of the 2019 Tivoli will happen next month and the pricing will start at 16,680,000 won (around INR 9.78 lakhs). The company has started accepting bookings and everyone who is depositing 100,000 won (around INR 6K) as an advance booking amount (before 4th June) will be entitled to receive a special Tivoli T-shirt.

Mahindra’s latest sub-4 metre SUV, the XUV300 is actually based on the Tivoli itself. The compact SUV has had a good start since its launch but now will be facing increased competition with an aggressively priced Hyundai Venue. Later, an all-electric version of the XUV300 is also expected to be launched, which again will be sharing a lot from the Tivoli. Though it is certainly very early for talking about a facelift of the XUV300, however, whenever it comes, it will take in considerable cues from the facelifted Tivoli.
