Ford EcoSport is being showcased at the 21st Indonesia International Motor Show being held from 19-29th September 2013. Set to make its way into Indonesian markets, the Ford EcoSport is reported to be rolled out from Ford’s Rayong plant in Thailand while the company’s Chennai plant will serve as a major export hub for other global markets.
In July 2013, Ford EcoSport was mentioned the most number of times online in India in the SUV category. The other popular SUV mentions were made for Tata Aria and Renault Duster. Ford Endeavour, Honda CR-V, Chevrolet Captiva ranked foremost as most vibrant nameplates.
Ford has had to indefinitely halt EcoSport bookings due to an overwhelming response in India. With 30,000 bookings in the first 17 days of launch, Ford India has their hands full in trying to ensure timely deliveries. To ensure customers aren’t put off by a lengthy waiting period, Ford India is at present only accepting bookings for 1.5 liter petrol trims – Ambient, Trend and Titanium.
Despite severe economic constraints in the country and falling auto sales since the past 9 months, Ford India has reported a 6.88% increase in August sales.
Nissan has taken the wraps off the latest model of Terrano where it was seen as a smart and rugged SUV based on the much loved Renault Duster. Prebookings commence from 1st September 2013. Bollywood director Kabir Khan displayed the model simulating three situations which showcase the SUV’s resourcefulness be it in cityscape, campsite or at a luxury resort.
Excess demand and long waiting periods has initiated Ford dealers to stop taking further bookings of the Ford EcoSport SUV.
Volkswagen, Europe’s leading car makers, have on Thursday launched the new variant of its Polo hatchback called the Cross Polo in India. Priced at INR 7.75 lakhs (ex showroom Delhi), the sporty Cross Polo is set to compete against both the Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport and is also expected to boost sluggish sales in India ahead of the forthcoming festive season.
