Maruti Suzuki is facing the prospect of shelling out additional compensation to the tune of over INR 500 crores for 600 acres of land in Manesar, Haryana. Though, decision is pending with Supreme Court (SC), the company may plan on shutting down the plant in view of this hefty compensation. Apart from this, their parent, Suzuki’s Chairman, Mr Osamu Suzuki visits today to attend board meeting.
July 18, 2013 marks one year since Maruti Suzuki Manesar worker’s strike which will be remembered for the mayhem and chaos that ensued. This strike also led to the death of Awanish Kumar Dev, a senior executive besides causing injuries to over 100 employees and two Japanese.
Tepid demand in domestic market have resulted in Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country’s largest automaker, sending 200 contract workers on extended leave. This is due to the fact that the company has had to cut diesel engine production at their Manesar plant, reports PTI.
