Apart from Zest and Bolt, the company is also actively testing another new hatchback, codenamed Kite. 2015 Kite will be a replacement to the Indica and was recently spied testing at the company plant in Pimpri, Pune wherein its interiors were visible.
Set to serve as the company’s entry level hatchback positioned between Nano and Indica, the new Kite could be priced around INR 3-3.5 lakhs and compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Datsun Go. Both petrol and diesel engines are planned for the new Kite which will also get automated manual transmission option.
Tata Kite will share some vital cabin components with both Bolt and Indica while interior layout will resemble the new Zest on many fronts. Tata Kite will be seen with a new instrument cluster with brushed silver bezels while center console and air conditioning vents will be much the same as seen on board the Xenon pick-up.
Tata Kite will enter production at the company’s Sanand, Gujarat plant by mid 2015. While launch of Kite hatchback is confirmed, a sedan version based on the Kite is also slated for launch which will take the place of the Indigo sedan.
