Tata Nano diesel launch confirmed for March 2014: Might be showcased at Delhi Auto Expo
In a bid to spruce up volumes of their dream car Nano, Tata Motors will launch the much awaited diesel Nano by end of March 2014. Sales of Tata Nano have been much lesser than expected. When first launched, Tata expected sales of about 20,000 units per month, but this year, Nano sales have averaged at 1500 units per month.
Priced between INR 1.45 lakhs to INR 2.20 lakhs, the Nano is currently available in a petrol option while a CNG variant is slated for launch in October. The diesel powered Nano is expected to be a major game changer for the company. It’s price is expected to come at a premium of about Rs 50-75k.
Tata Nano failed to attract customers and sales slumped 27% in financial year ended 31st March 2013 and has seen orders crash further, to the extent of 78% between April and July 2013. During this period the company sold just 6,017 units of Tata Nano as compared to 27,625 units in the same period in 2012.
