Tata Nano certainly struck a chord in India with their 1 lakh price range for the Nano but the small car project needs to be sustainable. Nano variants call for higher price considerations and in the US, the car itself is bigger.
As such, one the first 1 lakh cars are disbursed price changes are most likely. Rate changes would be backed by the fact that input costs and technology upgradation for BS-IV emission norms are certainly costing manufacturers big money.
As such, once December 2010 nears and the first batch of price protected Nanos are allotted, price considerations will be made. Commercial production of Nano will begin at the Sanand plant next month while trials are already underway. Soon, both plants will be manufacturing the Tata Nano simultaneously. At present, the cars are being manufacture at the Pantnagar plant with engines being made in Pune.
It is expected that the next round of Nano bookings will be initiated earlier than expected. A contributing fact being some Nano bookings had been cancelled over time.
