Tata Nexon compact SUV might be launched in 2015
Tata Motors had an extensive display of vehicles across passenger and commercial segments on display at 2014 Auto Expo under Horizonext banner. Under this future direction of technologies, Tata Motors unveiled a new concept compact sports utility vehicle Nexon, which could be launched as early as 2015.
Nexon compact SUV is a sub four meter SUV, and once launched will compete with the likes of Ford EcoSport. Being under 4m in length, Tata Nexon gets to enjoy the lower excise duty, which will help Tata to price the Nexon aggressively.
Tata has already confirmed that they will launch new cars every year, starting this year with Zest and Bolt. Considering the growth the compact SUV segment is registering, Tata Nexon could be launched as early as next year, in 2015.
Tata Nexon is built on the X1 platform, seen on board Vista, Bolt and Zest, which were also on display at the Auto Expo. Engine options are expected to be the same which are seen on board the new Bolt and Zest, in the form of a three cylinder 1.2 liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 110 ps peak power and 170 Nm peak torque, mated to a 5 speed automatic transmission. For diesel, it will be the Fiat sourced 1.3l Multi Jet.
Tata Nexon also features excellent ground clearance in excess of 200mm, while in terms of dimensions, Nexon measures 4 m in length, 1.73 m in width and stands 1.6 m tall sitting on a wheelbase of 2.54 m.
