Tata plans car made from plastic and composite materials

Tata Motors is working on a low cost small car, which will be made using plastic and other composite materials, instead of traditional materials like steel and aluminium. This technology has already arrived in Tata’s hands from Italy and it has been successfully crash tested at their plant in Pune.

Tata plans low cost small car made from composite materials

Speaking more of the upcoming composite model planned by Tata Motors, it will be made using a special material called Poly-diallyl-phthalate (PDP) which is also used in certain industrial purposes, reports ET. Composite vehicles have been built globally, but using carbon fiber, which defeats the purpose of making it a low cost vehicle.

If Tata manages to successfully launch a car made of composite materials, without the use of carbon fiber, they will definitely have a real winner. Once the basic tub like structure is ready, Tata can then built different models around it, like a two sitter, a mini SUV, or a Nano like car. The advantages of a car made fdrom composite materials are that they lightweight, which makes them more fuel efficient. PDP is also cheaper than standard steel or aluminum used in car body building which contributes to a more economical and affordable price while the vehicle is safer, lighter and stronger while actual construction is far easier.
