Tata Harrier, Nexon, Tigor, Zest, Hexa – Discounts in March 2020

Tata Motors has carried forward a seamless shift to BS6 emission standards

Tata Motors has updated almost all of its products to BS6 specifications ahead of the deadline in April 2020. In fact, the Indian automotive manufacturer conducted a joint launch event for the new BS6-compliant Tiago, Tigor, Nexon and Altroz premium hatchback. However, certain dealerships have still got leftover BS4 models in their inventory and staff are doing their best to sell them off.

In other words, the discounts offered for BS4 products are mostly at a dealership-level and not directly from the company. For the same reason, the rate of discounts may differ significantly with each dealership. Here are the March 2020 BS4 discounts for certain Tata models.

Starting with the Tata Zest, which is the virtual predecessor of the Tigor that was never officially discontinued, the compact-sedan is offered with discount benefits up to Rs 1.25 lakh. Its theoretical successor, the Tata Tigor compact-sedan, is available with the same amount of benefits.

The BS4-compliant Tata Nexon is a decent buy and carries the title of being the very first Indian car to achieve a 5-star safety rating in Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) safety tests. The compact-SUV is offered with dealership-level benefits in the range of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.75 lakh.

The Tata Hexa, being the most expensive model of the lot, gets the highest discount. You might be able to find a good example of the 7-seater SUV at a discount of roughly Rs 2.25 lakh. The Hexa will be eventually phased out as the Tata Gravitas debuts in a few months’ time. Harrier BS4 is also on sale at a discounted price of up to Rs 1.3 lakhs.

BS4 Tata ModelDiscount
ZestRs 1.25 lakh
TigorRs 1.25 lakh
NexonRs 1-1.75 lakh
HexaRs 2.25 lakh
HarrierRs 1.3 lakh

Owing to a smooth advancement to BS6 emission standards, Tata Motors dealerships have a relatively smaller BS4 inventory. To give a comparison, Maruti Suzuki has completely shifted its focus on petrol cars while its much-demanded BS4 diesel models will not receive a BS6 update. Being the biggest passenger-car seller in the Indian automotive industry, Maruti Suzuki ARENA and NEXA outlets have a considerable amount of leftover BS4 stock. You can find a BS4 diesel Maruti for a good deal.

As per the new regulations, no BS4-compliant vehicle (regardless of the category) can be registered from 1 April 2020. If a dealership has unsold BS4 stock, there are only three options: 1) register the vehicle for internal use, ahead of the deadline; 2) consult the manufacturer if there is a buyback programme; 3) follow a proper scrapping policy if the options mentioned before are not applicable.

Disclaimer – Discounts are offered by dealers, and they vary from dealer to dealer, depending on the stock. Please check with company authorized dealers in your city for exact amount of discount / benefit offered.
