Tata Zest features explained variant wise

Tata Zest is launched at Rs. 4.64 lakhs starting price for petrol version and from Rs. 5.64 lakhs for diesel trim. Here is all the features loaded in much awaited compact sedan from Tata Motors, explained variant-wise.

Tata-Zest-BlueTata Zest petrol is available in four variants and diesel is offered in five. There is only one petrol engine, 4 cylinder 1.2 litre Revotron with turbocharger and Single Over Head Camshaft (SOHC). It produces 90 PS max. power @ 5000 rpm and 140 Nm peak torque @ 1750 – 3500 rpm.

Base variant of Tata Zest diesel hosts 1.3 litre 4 cylinder QuadraJet engine that delivers 75 PS @ 4000 rpm and 190 Nm @ 1750 – 3000. Same engine in remaining four variants up to top end pushes out 90 PS @ 4000 rpm and 200 Nm @ 1750 – 3000. All engines are mated to 5 speed manual transmission, 90 PS diesel engine with 5 speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) is offered in only one model, in the middle of diesel variant ladder.

Tata Zest exteriorsExteriors – Tata Zest comes with alloy wheels right from entry level model till top end. This is probably the first time an Indian car maker is doing so, in the given price range. Features like body coloured ORVM (Outside Rear View Mirror), ORVM with LED turn indicators and body coloured door handles & bumpers are also offered through all variants of Zest. This could attract people who are looking to buy base variant of competing compact sedans.

Features like projector headlamps, chrome weather strip on windows and chrome garnish on front fog lamps are available in all but base variant (XE). Top end XT variant gets LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) instead of chrome garnish on front fog lamps, and LED light guide rings on headlamps.

Tata Zest-078 interiorsInteriors – Dual-tone Java Black & Latte interior scheme, rugby shoulder seats and aluminium finish gear shift lever are seen in all trims from XE to XT. Features like full fabric seat upholstery, key ring illumination, door co-ordinated cabin lights, door trim with fabric inserts, day & night IRVM (Inside Rear View Mirror) and co-driver seat under storage drawer are absent in entry model XE but available in rest of Tata Zest models. Boot lamp is limited to top of line XT variant.

Music system – Entry variant XE does not get an audio player. Second variant XM through XMS (fourth) gets ConnectNext infotainment system by Harman. High end XT gets ConnectNext touchscreen infotainment system by Harman with SD card reader, controls of FATC (Fully Automatic Temperature Control) on touchscreen, reverse park guide display, picture/image viewer via USB and SD card, voice command recognition technology, smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth enabling call reject with SMS feature, conference call and incoming SMS notifications and read-outs. By pairing a smartphone via Bluetooth in either of Harman players (in all variants except XE), facilities like phonebook access, call log access (incoming, outgoing, missed) and audio streaming can be enjoyed.

Options like AM / FM, USB, AUX-in, iPod connectivity, remote control for music system, speed dependent volume control and steering mounted audio & phone controls are available in both players. Music is played via 4 speakers and 4 tweeters.

Tata Zest-070 reverse displayEquipment – All variants of Tata Zest get tilt adjustable Electric Power Steering (EPS), air conditioner with heater, vanity mirror on sun visor of co-driver side, foldable key and front power windows.

Rear power windows, electric adjustment for ORVMs, remote central locking and adjustable headrest on rear seat is seen in all trims above entry model XE. Height adjustable driver seat is offered in top two variants XMS and XT. Features like rear defogger, rear parking sensors and Fully Automatic Temperature Control (FATC) are exclusive to top of line Tata Zest XT.

Tata Zest-066 instrumentInstrument panel – Tata Zest comes with segmented Multi-Info Display (MID), gear shift (up/down) and in-gear indicator, driver seat belt reminder, buzzer, individual door-open display, light-off and key-in reminder, buzzer, distance-to-empty info, fuel consumption display (mileage) and digital fuel gauge in all variants. High end XT gets extra ambient temperature display as its the only variant to equip FATC.

Safety & Security – Tata Motors gives immobiliser in all Zest variants while base model XE is excluded from getting speed dependent auto door lock system, front & rear fog lamps and ABS (Antilock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) & CSC (Corner Stability Control).
Dual (driver & passenger) airbags and front seat belts with pre-tensioner & load limiter are provided in XMS and XT, while perimetric alarm system is limited to XT.
