Tata Zica makes global debut – Specs, Features, Photos

At the exclusive media-only event in Goa, Tata Motors officially revealed the new Zica hatchback. Promoted by their new global brand ambassador, Lionel Messi (who was not present at the event), Tata Zica will be launched in the second week of January 2016.

Designed at their design studios in Pune, Turin and Coventry, new Tata Zica is based on the old Indica’s XO platform, but looks or feels nothing like it. Aimed to attract the young generation of first time car buyers, Tata Motors hopes Zica will revive their performance on the sales charts.

Engine, Transmission and Mileage

Tata Zica will be offered in a choice of one petrol and one diesel engine. Both these options are new, and will be seen for the first time on board the Zica. Petrol Zica is powered by the same family of Revotron engine which powers the Zest and Bolt. But, the one powering Zica is a three cylinder 1.2 liter (1199 cc) mill, while the one powering Bolt and Zest is a four cyl mill.

This 3-cyl engine generates maximum power of 85 PS at 6000 rpm and 114 Nm torque at 3500 rpm. Just like Zest and Bolt, this engine also has the Multi Drive feature. Thanks to which, you can drive Zica petrol in either Eco mode or City mode.

Tata Zica diesel gets a new 1.05 liter (1047 cc) three cylinder diesel engine. This engine is the first of the new range of diesel engines which Tata Motors is developing. This family of engines is called Revotorq. On board Zica, the 1.05 liter mill generates peak power of 70 PS at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 140 Nm between 1800 – 3000 rpm. This engine also features the Multi Drive modes.

Both variants of Tata Zica will be mated to a five speed manual transmission. AMT option will be on offer, but will be launched at a later date. Mileage figures were not revealed officially, but expect the petrol variant to claim 20+ kmpl, while diesel might claim 25+ kmpl.

Dimension and Weight

A five door hatchback, Tata Zica is 3746 mm long, 1647 mm wide, 1535 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2400 mm. Ground clearance is 170 mm, good enough for Indian road conditions. Featuring a smart cabin, all four dours have pockets, there is a rear parcel tray as well for storing items, while boot space stands at 242 liters.

Featuring a monocoque construction, Tata Zica petrol variant weighs 1012 kgs, while the diesel variant weighs 1080 kgs. The 14 inch alloys are wrapped around with 175/65 R14 tubeless rubber.

Features and Safety

Built for the new generation of buyers, Tata Zica is loaded with new features. To start with, there is Harman infotainment system, 8 speaker surround sound system, steering mounted controls (phone + audio), bluetooth connectivity, smartphone enabled navigation (only Android phones), first in segment Juke car app, foldable key, roof antenna, vanity mirrors, power windows (all four), electrically adjustable ORVM, cooled glove box, etc.

Speaking about safety, Tata Zica gets dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, driver seatbelt reminder, rear parking sensors with display on the infotainment screen, and energy absorbing body structure.

Price

Tata Zica price was not revealed at the event today. But considering that this car is going to compete with the likes of Hyundai i10, Maruti WagonR, Maruti Celerio, etc, we expect the price range of Zica to be from INR 3.8 lakh to INR 5.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Official price, and variant details will be revealed at the launch, scheduled for second week of January 2016.
