Team Yokohama at Indian Rally Championship
It will be for the first time that Team Yokohama will be participating in 2014 Indian Rally Championship, being held this weekend in Nashik, Maharashtra. Being conducted by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs in India (FMSCI), the Japanese tyre majors will have a strong representation at IRC while they strengthen their motorsport activities in the country.
The company’s participation in these events is especially momentous as they are participating as a team for the first time, while they supported only one car in the 2007 Raid De Himalaya. The rally will comprise of 108.05 kms of Special Stages with total distance of 621.31 kms. Super Special Stage of 2.03 kms will be conducted on Friday while Saturday and Sunday is when Special Stages will be held during which time Yokohama rally tyres will be put to the test, testing the limits and showcasing its unmatched performance and high level of durability.
Yokohama Tyres have been actively involved in Motorsports over the past few years. The company is the sole provider of tyres to FIA World Touring Car Championship since 2006 while they are also sole tyre suppliers to International Formula 3 Grand Prix Macau for the past 31 years.
Yokohama Tyres has also won several international awards for their high performance on board commercial vans and for off track performance while they are official suppliers to car manufacturers such as Audi, Honda, Mercedes Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Suzuki and Toyota.

Japanese Tyre Major further strengthens its Motor Sports Activities in India
New Delhi, 13th June 2014: Yokohama India, will, for the first time introduce TEAM YOKOHAMA for the Indian Rally Championship (IRC) being held at Nashik from 13-15 June, 2014
by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India.
The unveiling of the team colours, will take place at the 1ST round of the 3rd edition of the FMSCI- Indian Rally Championship, at Nashik, from 13 June 2014. Vying for a podium finish, Team Yokohama India comprises of Rahul Kanthraj for the 2000 CC category and Vikram Devdasen, (Currently Ranked 3rd in India) for the 1600 cc category.
“This is first time that we are participating as a team, hence this is a special moment for us. We started supporting only one car during the 2007 Raid De Himalaya and now we have our own team” said Mr Sanjay Chatterjee, General Manager Sales, Yokohama India.
Indian Rally Championship (IRC) is a rallying series organized by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India. The Nashik leg of the rally has a total Distance of 621.31 km’s, where all special Road Surface Stages are ASPHALT.
“Today majority of rally drivers prefer using the Yokohama rally tyre only because of their durability and unmatched performance. “In these rallys a car’s endurance is tested to the limits and the tyre being the only point of ground contact for the car is tested beyond it’s ultimate strength” further added Mr. Chatterjee.
Yokohama in India has been part of major Motorsports activities since 2007. While it has won the Himalayan car Rallys for three consecutive years, 2009, 2010 & 2011, Yokohama India has had podium finishes at all rally the company has participated in.
The 2014 season of nine rounds will have three rounds in the East zone (Baripada, Kolkata and Ranchi), one each in North (Jaipur) and West (Nashik) and four in the south (Chikmagalur, Bengaluru, Coimbatore and Chennai).
Over the years Yokohama has become synomous to global Motorsports. Currently Yokohama has been the sole official tyre supplier to FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) since 2006. Yokohama also has been the sole tyre supplier for 31 consecutive years to the Mecca of Formula 3, which is held in Macau every year.
