Terra Motors to launch electric rickshaw in India this October
Terra Motors Corporation, the premiere manufacturer of electric two and three wheelers in Japan, made its debut in the Indian market earlier this year, when it launched the Kiwami electric sports bike. Now going one step ahead, the Japanese automaker has plans of introducing an electric three wheeler in India for which the company is entering into a contract with a Rajkot based manufacturer.
Having showcased a host of products at the 2014 Auto Expo earlier this year, the company plans investment of INR 30 cores in India over the 2014-15 period. The upcoming T4 electric rickshaw will be seen powered by a 3.5 kW electric motor capable of drawing charge from a 48V, 120 Ah battery. The T4 will also be offered with lead acid battery and lithium ion battery options and will have a range of 80kms with capacity to carry upto 5 passengers inclusive of driver.
T4 three wheeler from Terra Motors will measure 2,600 mm in length, 1,400 mm in width and 1,700mm in height. It will have a total weight of 350 kgs and a top speed of 40 kmph. Designed by experienced R&D engineers, its design is compact while chassis is durable and platform strong. T4 contributes to low running cost and low maintenance costs as compared to fuel powered three wheelers and hence the company is confident of its acceptance in India. Besides India, Terra Motors also plans to enter Bangladesh in 2015.
