Tesla Motors developments in Germany
Co-founder and CEO of Tesla Motors, Elon Musk was in Munich and Berlin this week to announce 3 major developments for Model S customers in Germany at a time when the company is increasing European deliveries through Q4, and ramps up further in 2014.
Primary investment at present is for accelerated deployment of Superchargers in Germany. The next month will see groundbreaking ceremonies to energize the corridors between Munich and Stuttgart, Munichand Zurich, Switzerland, and Cologne and Frankfurt. Network expansion will nclude routes between Frankfurt and Stuttgart and Stuttgart and Zurich.
By the end of March 2014, more than 50% of Germany will be covered by Tesla’s Supercharger network, with 100% of the country covered by mid 2014. B 2014 end, Germany will have more Superchargers per capita than any other country. All Supercharger stations will be upgraded to 135 kW to facilitate quicker free charging for long distance travel. Tesla’s network will be open to all other auto manufacturers that design cars able to be charged at 135 kW.
Expansion of service centres in Germany will see 5 more service centres by 2013 end, ensuring 80% of Germans live within 100 km of a Tesla service centre by 2014 end. There will be free optional high speed tuning for Model S in Germany to optimize it for driving on the Autobahn.
