2013 STCC premiere for Volvo Polestar Racing (1)The STCC premiere held at Knutstorp, South Sweden, saw Thed Björk secure his first victory of the season for  Volvo Polestar Racing. Björk stated that he owed his success to a well balanced vehicle and his team both of which stood in good stead during the second race. Björk started second on the grid in this second race but was soon able to take the lead to contend against BMW driver Richard Göransson, who was the winner of the first race of the weekend. Björk kept up his lead throughout the 20 lap race to make him a winner.

Being in fourth position in the first race and a winner in the second ensures that Björk is second in championship ratings and the recipient of a total of 39 points, with winner Göransson, just 8 points ahead at 47 points. Following Björk’s first position in the second race, Robert Dahlgren came in fourth in the 2nd race, the second best Volvo driver at the weekend premiere. Linus Olsson, 22, also had a strong start, though not satisfied with his two fifth positions in both the races at Knutstorp as he strives for podium finish and will be working hard as the STCC season continues on 8th June 2013 at Solvalla, Stockholm. The STCC season heads to Solvalla in Stockholm on 8th June.

Thed Björk said, “A wonderful victory! The balance of the car was so good in the second race, a big thanks to the team and what a great start to the season,” said Björk. He added, “Göransson was closing in, but I was able to respond to that and pull up a new gap. He was never close enough after that.”

Robert Dahlgren said, “The podium finish in the first race was great. It has been a solid start to the season. We know what we need to work on for the next race in order to fight for the victory.”

22-year-old Linus Ohlsson said, “We got the car good for the races, but we lack some speed in qualifying. But it has been an okay weekend overall, but I am not pleased until I am on top of the podium and that is what we are working for to Solvalla.”

Reigning champion Fredrik Ekblom had 2 sixth place finishes and said, “We had problems in qualifying that unfortunately followed us for both races. But for my worst ever race weekend in these cars, two sixth positions is okay. And the positive thing is that we know what needs to be done in order to find those last tenths needed for the very top. I am fully focused on the next race!”

Prince Carl Philip Bernadotte said, “It has been a good debut STCC weekend for me. I made some unnecessary mistakes, but the positive thing is that I got proof that I have the speed for top ten and that is something I am really glad over.”

Derek Crabb, Motorsport Director of Volvo Cars said, “The first race weekend of 2013 can for sure be summarized as really good for Volvo Polestar Racing. Björk made an amazing job in the second race and the hard fight with BMW bodes well for the rest of the season.”
