Tata Motors slips to sixth, Mahindra is the only Indian company in top 5

Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers has revealed sales report of all car manufacturers in India for last fiscal. This data reveals that Mahindra is now the only Indian company among the Top 5 Passenger Car Makers in India as Tata Motors has slipped to the sixth position for 2014/15 fiscal.

Tata Motors launched the new Safari Storme facelift earlier this month.

Mahindra is in third position, after Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai India. After Mahindra, on the fourth position is Honda Cars India, which is followed by Toyota India. This new pecking order of leading passenger automakers in India pushes out Tata Motors, which in the 2013/14 fiscal, occupied fourth position. Tata Motors is followed by Ford India in the new order.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited retains its top most position on the list with a total of 11,70,702 units sold in FY 2015 up from 10,53,689 units sold in FY2014. Hyundai Motors sold 4,20,668 units in FY 2015 as against 3,80,253 units sold in FY2014 gaining it a second position on the list while M&M came in third with sales to the tune of 2,01,129 units in FY 2015 down from 2,29,155 units in FY2014.

Major changes could be seen with change in positions of both Honda and Toyota. Honda which was in fifth position in FY 2014 with 1,34,417 units sold saw increased sales to 1,89,062 units in FY2015 causing it to jump ahead to fourth place while Toyota which was in sixth position with 2,28,811 units sold in FY2014 also saw increased sales to 1,41,347 units causing it to be positioned in fifth place on the list.

These passenger vehicle manufacturers managed to push out Tata Motors from the list, despite the fact that company sales dipped only marginally. Tata Motors sales in FY2014 stood at 1,38,417 units with the company in fourth position while sales in FY2015 dipped to 1,34,080 causing it to slip to number six position. Ford India also reduced its sales from 84,469 units in the previous year to 75,155 units in FY2015.
