Toyota 1.3 million global recall 2013 includes Corolla sedan
Toyota Motor Corp has yet another recall, their first global in 2013, which will affect almost 1.3 million vehicles. These will include 752,000 units of Corolla and Corolla Matrix in the US along with 385,000 Lexus IS and its series.
Two accidents have also occurred outside Japan though no details of the same were available with Toyota. This malfunction of airbags was due to the presence of an IC chip in the control unit which on receipt of electrical interference from other parts of the vehicle causes them to deploy even in the case of no impact. Toyota will be recalling these vehicles and fitting them with an electrical signal filter in the airbag control module. The entire process should take no more than 90 minutes.
In a separate case, Toyota will be recalling 385,000 Lexus IS and its series, which includes 270,000 Lexus IS. This will affect just the US and the reason for recall is over wiper problems. It is a faulty wiper nut arm at the front of the wiper that is not tight enough to work satisfactorily under extreme weather conditions. Toyota will be replacing the nut, while this replacement process will take just 30 minutes.
