Toyota announces one of the biggest ever car recall in history
Earlier today, Japanese car maker Toyota Motors announced to recall about 6.58 million cars globally. This is one of the biggest ever car recall to be announced by any car maker in the world. The reason for recall was due to the fault noticed in the wiring harnesses, steering column, and seat railings of cars like Toyota Yaris and Scion xA urban cruiser.
A total of 1058 cars were noted to have these faults and because of which, Toyota Motor released in an official statement about their latest recall of 65.8 lakh cars. Of these, 825,000 cars were recalled in Europe alone.
Toyota is yet to give a detailed report on the recall. As of now, it is known that the cars which are affected by this recall – Yaris and Urban Cruiser SUV are manufactured between January 2005 and August 2010. There is also the Hilux pick-up and RAV4 SUV which have been affected, that were built between June 2004 and December 2010.
It is not clear how many of the cars in India are affected by this recall, but it is revealed that the affected units include Fortuner and Innova. It was also not revealed that the cause of the fault was because of a manufacturing issue, or a design flaw. No accidents or injury/death have been caused due to these faults.
