Toyota Calya 7-seat MPV spotted at dealership ahead of premiere at 2016 GIIAS

The Toyota Calya 7-seat MPV which is essentially Toyota’s production version of the Daihatsu UFC-3 concept (of course, there will be a Daihatsu version as well – Sigra) has been spotted at an Indonesian dealership ahead of its world premiere at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (2016 GIIAS).

While the profile has obvious references to the UFC-3 concept, the Low Cost Green Car (as per Indonesia’s norms) features front and rear fascias that have unmistakable Toyota identity. The rear fascia with its L-shaped combination lights is very close to that of the new Innova.

The rear fascia is inspired by the new Innova.

So far, the Datsun Go+ Panca has been the only MPV to enjoy LCGC tax benefits in Indonesia. The Calya/Sigra twins will soon join the bandwagon. While the Go+ has a stance of an estate, the Calya with a tall ride height emerges as a traditional MPV albeit with compact footprint.

Based on the Daihatsu Ayla’s platform, the Calya is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine as mandated by the Indonesian LCGC scheme. The motor produces 88 PS and 108 Nm of torque. The front wheels are driven either by a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The Toyota Calya gets standard front airbags.

The Toyota Calya will be positioned below the best selling Avanza in Toyota Indonesia’s portfolio. With an attractive price tag, the new LCGC MPV has the potential to damage the prospects of slightly larger MPVs like the Suzuki Ertiga in Indonesia.
