Toyota Motor Corporation Intelligent Transport System Test Site

Toyota Motor Corporation is committed to the cause of safer driving techniques and reduction in accidents while on the road. With this aim in mind, TMC has launched a new test site at ITS Proving Ground, Higashi-Fuji Technical Center in Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture. This site is being initiated with an endeavor to bring about reduction in traffic accidents through Intelligent Transport System technology.

The facility is spread over an area of 3.5 hectares and simulates an urban environment with well defined roads and traffic signals, road to road communication devices, pedestrian detection system and monitoring procedures. The communication system runs on 700 MHz band and reception is possible over a wide area making vehicle communication at intersections and areas of poor visibility effective.

The system will bring about drastic reduction of traffic fatalities and injuries while also enhancing on board safety devices and safer technology. TMC’s new Integrated Safety Management Concept will give new direction to safe technologies, fuel conservation and a safer and better traffic environment by promoting traffic safety education.
