Toyota recalls 242,000 Prius and Lexus HS 250h hybrids over faulty brakes
Toyota Motor Corp announced that the company would be recalling a total of 242,000 gas electric hybrid vehicles. Prius produced between March and October 2009 and Lexus HS 250h produced between June and October 2009 will be recalled following brake design flaws which have come to light.
Prius affected by this fault are sold across the globe while Lexus sedans are sold in US, Canada and Japan. All recalled vehicles reported greater stopping distances when brakes were applied, which the company stated is due to a defect in a brake part. This part is its brake pressure accumulator could crack and release nitrogen gas into brake fluid and while no accidents, injuries or death was reported, the company will be recalling these vehicles and exchanging the faulty part with a new one which could take around three hours and will be done free of charge.
