TVS-BMW motorcycle progress on schedule, launch by August 2015

The Indo-German association between TVS Motors and BMW Motorrad, is jointly working on launching new motorcycles in India. Announced in April 2013, the partnership is very close to launching their first motorcycle. At the time of announcement, the officials had revealed that it will take about two year’s time for the market launch of their first product. This means its about time. And guess what. The team is progressing as per schedule. This was confirmed by none other than the top level official at TVS Motors.

Unlike KTM Duke, this one does not have an underbelly exhaust.

In a recent interview with Business Standard, KN Radhakrishnan, President and CEO, TVS Motors, has stated that the progress is heading as per planned. Speaking about the launch of their first product, he said that first ever TVS-BMW motorcycle will be launched within 3-6 months. This means, fans can expect to buy one by August 2015.

Codenamed K03, the first TVS-BMW motorcycle was caught on test by Visor Down earlier this year. This was the first time the motorcycle was spied, revealing interesting details as to how the first TVS BMW motorcycle would look like. From the spy shots of the test mule, it seems to be a 300 cc (hint K03) naked motorcycle. The front and rear are very similar to a KTM Duke style, what separates is the wider handlebar, and a larger fuel tank. Front and rear gets single disc brakes, with ABS visible on the front.

Details of their projects were not revealed but it was believed that the first product will be a 300 cc naked bike, followed by a GS style adventure model sharing same platform and engine.

More details are to be revealed in the coming months, as the launch gets closer. Once launched, this unnamed TVS-BMW motorcycle will compete with the likes of KTM Duke 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300, Kawasaki Z250, Honda CBR 250, and yet to be launched Mahindra Mojo. Price is expected in the range of Rs 2.5 lakhs, thanks to heavy local content.
