The Government of Haryana has hiked vehicle registration charges. So a for a car which costs less than Rs 5 lakhs, you will have to pay Rs 9,200 compared to Rs 3,200 which you were paying till now for any car less than Rs 5 lakhs.
Till date one was charged approximately 1% of the cost price for cars valued between Rs 4-10 lakhs and 1.5% for cars above Rs 10 lakhs. According to revised rates, 4% for vehicles between Rs 5-10 lakhs, 6% for vehicles between Rs 10-20 lakhs and 8% for vehicles above Rs 20 lakhs.
These rates are still cheaper when compared to what you will have to shell out if you are buying a car in New Delhi. For the same car costing less than Rs 5 lakhs, one will have to pay Rs 18,000 as registration charges. So Delhi residents used to conveniently buy cars from nearby state of Haryana and this is considered as the prime reason behind Haryana Government hiking vehicle registration charges.
A lot of Delhi residents work in Gurgaon, Haryana. So they buy cars from Delhi and register it from Haryana as you just need address proof for registration. Haryana Government now hopes that this practice would be reduced. Two wheeler registration charges have also been hiked. A bike which costs less than Rs 60,000 will come with registration charges of Rs 1,620 compared to Rs 920 which you were paying till date.
