Rise in fuel prices has affected almost every car buyer in the world today. Compared to petrol cars, diesel powered cars are costlier, but they have a much better mileage which has become the USP for diesel cars these days. People opting for diesel powered cars are on the rise whereas people buying petrol driven cars are declining at a never before seen pace.
This rise in demand for diesel powered cars has inspired car manufacturers around the world to launch diesel engine powered options to their existing petrol powered models. On the same lines, Volkswagen is all set to unveil diesel variant of their iconic small car, Beetle at the Chicago Motor Show next month.
Volkswagen did not reveal any details regarding their new Beetle diesel, but rumors suggest that the legendary VW car will be powered by the same 2.0L TDI engine which currently powers other Volkswagen cars like Golf, Passat and Jetta.
This same 2.0L TDI delivers an amazing output of 140 bhp and 236 lb-ft torque. Once installed in the small car Beetle, the new diesel heart will in no way compromise performance and at the same time will deliver a much better mileage (22+ kmpl). Transmission will be taken care by either a six speed MT or a DSG – Direct Shift Gearbox.
