German automakers Volkswagen, revealed their Cross Coupe Concept at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show. This is a combination of a four door coupe and an SUV. The car is more compact than the Tiguan SUV with a longer wheel base ideal for off road conditions. This vehicle has a TSI engine and a 54 hp electric motor in the front, with another at the rear with 11 hp. This results in a combined output of 265 hp that is good enough to take on a 2.0 turbo.
The Cross Concept is a combination of exquisite style, enhanced performance a high level of efficiency rolled in one. It measures 171.1 inches ensuring that it is shorter than the VW Tiguan but longer than VW Golf. The drivetrain is enabled to switch the front motor to a generator that can power the rear electric motor.
The Concept is a four seater with comfortable bucket seats and headrests offering comforts to both driver and passengers. Trunk space of 13.4 cubic feet can be increased to 43.4 cubic feet if passenger seats are folded. It possesses a hybrid drive train of 3 power sources. Front wheels are powered by a 148 hp turbocharged engine offering 144 lb/ft torque, while rear axle has another electric motor and the rear electric motor is rated at 114 hp. Volkswagen had this to say. “Hints at how a crossover between a four-door coupé and an SUV could look like.”
