Volkswagen delivers first ever XL1, the 111 kmpl car
Volkswagen XL1 or VW 1 liter car was first shown as a concept back in 2002. After a long wait of about 12 years, the first ever XL1 has found its owner. Volkswagen has officially delivered first XL1 in to world to a customer in Berlin.
Production of XL1 is limited to just 250 units, out of which only 200 are for retail buyers. The first retail customer of Volkswagen XL1 is Dr. Christian Malorny who ordered a Oryx White coloured variant with grey interiors. The car was delivered to Dr Malorny by none other than VW Germany’s. Thomas Zahn, Sales and Marketing Director, Passenger Cars at their factory in Dresden.
Highlight of XL1 is that it is a super efficient vehicle which gives a claimed mileage of 111 kmpl (or 261 mpg), making it the most economical car in the world under series production. XL1 is powered by a 800 cc twin cylinder turbo-diesel engine generating 47 bhp power and a 5.5 kW battery that delivers 27 bhp. When only on battery power, this two seater can cover a range of 50 kms and a combined drive range of 650 kms.
As far as price if concerned, Volkswagen has not revealed them officially. But it is believed to be priced at about $145,000 (Rs 86 lakhs). Weighing less than 800 kgs, dimensions of XL1 stand at 153.1 inches in length, 65.6 inches in width, and 45.4 inches in height.
