Volkswagen Golf espied on test in Bangalore (Maybe not)

Volkswagen Golf is one of the best selling cars in Europe. So when the car is spotted on an Indian street, one wonders what is it doing here, considering that it is not launched in India, yet.

Volkswagen Golf, the premium full sized hatchback’s TSI BlueMotion variant is the one you see in the images here. It is powered by a 1.4 liter turbocharged petrol engine offering two sets of tunes 120 hp and 138 hp. Power is delivered by a 7 speed double clutch transmission. UPDATE: The earlier uploaded picture has been removed as several members from team-bhp expressed objections on the originality of the pictures and they have been deleted from the forum as well.

VW India did confirm that they have no plans to launch the new Golf in India, in the near future. The reason is simple, they are already finding it difficult to sell their Polo, which is one of the best hatchbacks in the country currently. The high price tag is why buyers are staying away from this world-class product.

The new Golf is not going to be launched in India, as far as we know. If launched, it will be priced in the City, Verna, Vento sedans. And considering India’s love for sedans over hatchbacks in that segment, it will be difficult for Volkswagen Golf to survive.

Measuring 4.25 meters and not complying with a sub 4 meter length will also mean that the VW Golf will not be qualified to take advantage of lower excise duties being offered by the Government of India.
