Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept 1 unveil beijing

Volkswagen showcased Golf R 400 Concept, a 395 hp hatchback monster at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show. Developed by Volkswagen’s R division, the car is set to enter production. This was revealed by none other than Heinz-Jakob Neusser, Volkswagen’s R&D Chief.

Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept 1 unveil beijingGolf R 400 concept weighs a total of 1420 kgs, receives an upgraded 2.0 liter TSI engine producing 400 PS peak power as against 300 PS offered by the engine on board Golf R hatchback. Torque is also improved by 70 Nm to 450 Nm between 2,400 and 6,000 rpm. It has a power to weight ratio of 3.55 PS per 1 kg. Apart from more power, an advanced DSG transmission on board helps R 400 to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.9 seconds. It also has a top speed of 280 kmph.

Besides its tuned up engine, the Golf R 400 Concept receives a host of exterior and interior updates in the form of higher spec wheels, flared wheel arches and a host of carbon fiber accents. Interiors get motorsport shell seats with integrated head rests with a lemon yellow color stitching. Exteriors are painted in Silver Flake with black roof and mirror caps in carbon.

Obviously, Volkswagen will not be making such an impressive engine for the Golf ONLY. You can expect the engine to power future Audi hot hatch.
