Volkswagen Group appoints Jürgen Stackmann as Chairman of SEAT S.A

Volkswagen Group appoints Jürgen Stackmann as Chairman of SEAT S.A. He takes over from James Muir, who will take on a senior management position in the VW Group.

Jürgen Stackmann (1)Volkswagen Group is now readying for Jürgen Stackmann to take charge as Chairman of SEAT S.A. wef 1st May, 2013. He takes over from James Muir, who will take on a senior management position in the VW Group, and report to the Board of Management directly. James Muir who took over in 2009 but hasn’t been able to turn SEAT into a profit making venture under his guidance.

The brand said that Muir will continue to be a part of the SEAT at a group level. SEAT profits have been the elusive golden egg that the group has still not managed to acquire, though losses have narrowed despite sales not picking up in Spain. The ray of hope has come from SEAT vehicles being sold in China. Jürgen Stackmann holds a business administration degree, beginning his professional career with Ford in 1989. At Ford, he held a number of posts in Germany and the UK. He joined the VW Group in 2010 starting with Sales and Marketing at ŠKODA AUTO a.s. Stackmann took on as VW Group marketing chief for Volkswagen Passenger Cars from 1st September, 2012.

James Muir holds a degree in European marketing and began work with Sales at Ford UK in 1987. Later he was appointed Project Director at Mazda Europe, and the MD at Mazda UK. In 2003, he took on the role of VP Sales, taking charge of Sales at Mazda Europe going on to be appointed President and CEO of Mazda Europe in 2005. His appointment as Chairman of SEAT S.A. came in September 2009 where he has played a pivotal role in restructuring the company.
